Both DLC packs for the game, The Crimson Court and The Shieldbreaker, will also be available for the Switch at a later period and as such Red Hook has stated these won’t come bundled in with the release and instead will be sold separately. Red Hook Studios’ Darkest Dungeon is one of the recent examples of this success what started out as a Kickstarter and release on Steam Early Access continually expanded upon its original January launch in 2016 and managed to even get distributed on PS4 & Vita in September of the same year - receiving critical and commercial success for its contrasting visual art-style and challenging, dungeon-crawling gameplay.Īnd while the developer had initially teased a Switch version popping up sometime in the near future, Red Hook have finally confirmed that Darkest Dungeon will be launching for Nintendo’s hybrid-console next week, January 18 to be exact. While Early Access has got a bit of a dark cloud and somewhat questionable reputation looming over itself, for justifiable reasons, there have been games (that will hopefully be added to in the near future) that have managed to evolve from their initial build into full releases.
